Personal care involves assisting clients with essential daily tasks while preserving their dignity and independence. As a caregiver, your focus should be on building trust and making the client feel safe and valued.

Key responsibilities include:
Assistance with ADLs: Support clients in bathing, grooming, toileting, mobility, dressing, and eating, always being mindful of their comfort and preferences.
Maintaining Hygiene and Health: Regular personal care helps prevent infections and complications, especially for clients with limited mobility.
Respecting Privacy and Autonomy: Knock before entering, explain each step before starting care, and allow clients to do what they can independently.
Observing and Reporting: Note skin changes, unusual odors, bruises, or signs of discomfort, and report concerns to a nurse or supervisor promptly.
Compassionate Interaction: Use a calm tone, maintain eye contact, and offer reassurance. Even routine care can be an opportunity to connect.
Being a personal care provider is more than a task—it’s a meaningful role that helps clients maintain dignity and quality of life in their own homes.
